The Proper Use of Cutlery

!±8± The Proper Use of Cutlery

The proper use of cutlery is really quite simple but many people struggle with the concept of its proper use, in so much as to how to place it on the table correctly. So consequently when serving a meal they do not arrange it in the correct way according to etiquette. Due to people's lack of confidence in placing their cutlery out properly they tend to make meal times less formal. This can lead to meal times being quite anti social, because instead of having a meal around a table with family and/or friends they will eat in front of the television or whilst tapping away at their computer. So just by learning a few basic rules you can turn your grab and run mealtimes into something special, and something for all involved to look forward to as this is probably the only time most families can actually spend quality time together in our madcap world that we have made for ourselves. So give your children chance to get to know you as you, and not as some whirlwind who is there to give them a taxi ride whenever they need it.

The basic rules for laying your table are easy to understand, and once learnt you will never forget. Also with any luck your children or dining partners will also notice how the table is laid and will pass on anything they have remembered to their other friend's and future family.

Cutlery is arranged in order of its use. The first course cutlery is placed on the outer edge of your dinnerware, whilst the courses that follow are placed on the inside of these. This means that when placing your cutlery out on your dining table it is usual best to put your cutlery for your last course out first, as this is placed nearer to your dinnerware. Then follow on by placing your other cutlery on the outside of this to make a uniform setting.

When placing your cutlery etiquette over the years has dictated that knives are placed to the right of the dinner service and forks to the left. In the case of spoons these are also placed on the right. This is probably because the majority of people are right-handed and so therefore this makes more sense. Another rule is to make sure that your cutlery matches. There is nothing more distracting than seeing a table with mismatched cutlery. Especially if there are different styles.

The Benefits of Using Masticating Juicers

!±8± The Benefits of Using Masticating Juicers

The official definition of the term "masticate" is chewing or teeth-gnashing. Based on this definition, a masticating juicer clearly performs a chewing function, particularly on fruit and vegetable fibers, so that a juice drink rich with pulp could be produced. The pulp-laden juice is unsurprisingly full of nutrients, including vitamins, trace minerals, fibers and enzymes.

Generally, masticating juicers are not as fast as other juicers. They perform a fewer number of rotations per minute. Because they have slower speeds, they can produce higher amounts of pulp-rich juice with lesser noise and foam levels. Additionally, with lower speed, less heat is produced. Therefore, there is less heat transfer. It is important to minimize heat transfer because a warm juice is a good medium for microorganisms. By reducing heat transfer, masticating juicers help prevent bacterial growth and allow longer storage times.

Masticating juicers are also designed with additional features in mind. These juicers are able to produce ground meat, sorbet, nut-based butters, fresh pasta and baby food, while other juicer models can only accommodate fruits and vegetables. Additionally, the former can deal with tougher or denser fruits and vegetables.

When one purchases this type of juicer like Hamilton Beach 932 commercial citrus juicer black or Jack LaLanne juicer there are two options - the single gear model and the dual gear model. Predictably, a single gear model costs less because it is made of polycarbonate-based augers. On the other hand, a dual gear model is costlier because it has stainless steel augers. However, this material also makes a dual gear model sturdier and more resistant. This is the reason why many consumers prefer dual-function juicers.

Using masticating juicers also have a drawback. Because of the slower rotating speed, more time is needed to produce juice. With slower juice production rates, they are not the ideal models for a person looking for a way to create juice quickly. However, this drawback can be balanced by the fact that these units have simple designs and are easy to clean. It is now known to everyone that regular consumption of natural juice greatly benefits a person's health. People are becoming increasingly aware of drinking these healthy products. As home-made juices become more popular, better and more efficient designs of juicers which can produce larger amounts of juice will be available in the near future.

What to Avoid in a Juicer

Before you buy a juicer, you should know why people who were enthusiastic about juicing suddenly stopped... They did not quit juicing because they stopped believing in the nutritional and healthful benefits of fruits and vegetables...

Rather, they quit because their juicer made it a chore to prepare ingredients before using it and cleaning up the mess afterwards. Also, they realized they were throwing away money spent on fruits and vegetables because their juice extractor left behind pulp that was still wet... And another thing about the juice maker people own was that it unexpectedly failed during use.

What to Look For In a Juicer

To avoid the problems these people had with their juicer, you have to study the brands available and arrive at a buying decision carefully based on features and techniques that overcome these problems.

Feed Chute

The problem with spending too much time slicing up fruits and vegetables can be overcome by avoiding juicers which have small sized feed chutes. Look for feed chutes wide enough to put most fruits or vegetables through whole. There are juicers that come with feed chutes 3 inches wide.

Parts

There is no way to totally escape the necessary chore of cleaning the juicer after each use. However, some juicers are easier and less time consuming to clean. Look for juicers that have the least number of parts to assemble and disassemble. These parts should also be dishwasher safe. When examining these parts, make sure to avoid juicers with too many crevices that will make removing residue difficult. To make cleaning the filter easier, soak it immediately in water and use a nylon brush to scrub off particles. Some juicers have a separate bin to collect pulp. Line this receptacle with a plastic shopping bag to make clean up easier.

Variable Speed

People have complained how very little juice gets extracted using their juicer. The pulp they feel is still wet. Putting the pulp back into the juicer for another round may still leave some juice remaining. One of the features in a juicer that is lacking when this problem occurs is having the choice of more than one speed. Look for juicers that have variable speeds. Softer textured fruits and vegetables require slower speeds to extract their juices. Harder textured fruits and vegetables require higher speeds.

Technique

Introducing ingredients through the feed chute slowly is a technique that helps get more juice out of the fruit or vegetable. Some juicers aren't designed for extracting juice from leafy vegetables. Wrapping or sandwiching them between solid foods will help. Other ways to extract the highest juice output possible is to make sure the filter isn't clogged and the way to accomplish this is by cleaning it immediately and thoroughly after each use.

Overload Protection

In rare instances, a juicer will fail. Users may think they just got the lemon from the batch. A warrantee and a call to the manufacturer's customer care department may help with getting a replacement if the juicer is defective. However, some juicers will automatically stop running to protect itself when it senses it's being overloaded. Before it can be used again, it must be allowed to cool down and the user must press a reset button. Some juicers are not designed for one long continuous use. Users who put in too much food into their juicers at once are only asking for trouble.

Ultimately, to enjoy the benefits of juicing a certain amount of time and effort is required. No juicer can totally eliminate that... However, if you shop carefully you will find the juicer that is easiest to use and maintain.
